"Let the little children come to me …
the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these."

Matthew 19:14 NIV

At First United Methodist Church, we strive to provide programs where children experience God's love in action and find guidance in sharing God's Word with others. We offer a full program for all ages from infants through 5th grade, including:

Nursery Care

toddlerDuring our Sunday morning worship and Sunday School hours, our nursery is available for Infants and Toddlers two years old and younger. The Nursery is located on the second floor between the Sanctuary and Chapel. It’s our hope that parents will experience convenience and peace of mind while attending worship services and other activities throughout the church. We provide our parents with a “buzzing pager” to notify you if your child needs some extra attention.

Childcare is also available (on request) for Wednesday night classes, and for most church sponsored events by contacting Leigh Ann Kremer, Coordinator of Infant and Toddler Care through our church office at 434-296-6193.

During worship - Kids 3 yrs through 2nd grade

Live B.I.G.During 8:30 chapel worship, 9:45 Incredible Journey and 11:00 a.m. Traditional Worship, Children 3 years - 2nd grade will all start in the worship service with their parents. After the children’s sermon portion of the worship service, they will be dismissed to go together to Children's Church for Live B.I.G., which is designed to help children learn about the love of God through Jesus so they can live their “Belief in God.”!
During Sunday School - Infants through

Rock SolidDuring our Sunday School Hour (9:45 - 10:45 a.m.), Children age 3 through 5th grade will attend Sunday School. Currently, we are using curriculum called Rock Solid. Rock Solid builds a solid foundation of faith through stories, crafts and games

Other Activities for Kids
  • Puppet Ministry – Biblically-based skits performed by youth for children occasionally during Sunday School classes. This ministry will be restarting this fall (2010) and we are looking for volunteers who would like to be a part of this exciting ministry.
  • Mission projects throughout the year, such as Heifer Project, Operation Christmas Child, and food collection for the soup kitchen.
  • Vacation Bible School – a week-long program is offered each June.
  • Adult Volunteers: Helping with Sunday School is EASY (That's one reason we chose The Buzz curriculum!) Check out our Volunteer Form and let us know when you can help!
  • First UMC PreschoolOur First United Methodist Prechool - For over twenty years, First United Methodist Preschool has provided a quality preschool experience for two, three and four year old children in the Charlottesville area. We strive to provide a developmentally appropriate experience for each child within a caring environment. To learn more, visit our preschool page.
