Ready, Set, Cook! A Special class offering at First United Methodist Church

Basic cooking skills taught at First UMCReady Set, Cook is a 12-week class focusing on ServSafe and Prep Cook certificates. The classes are held at First United Methodist Church Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. Classes are taught by Christina Rizzo who is a Certified ServSafe Instructor and Registered ServSafe Examination Proctor. The registration fee is $30.00 cash (Scholarships Available). All applicants must be approved through an application (DOWNLOAD HERE) and interview process. If you prefer, paper applications can also be picked up at the Haven, 112 West Market St.; First United Methodist Church, 101 E. Jefferson St.; and the Jefferson-Madison Regional Library, 201 E. Market St. Applications must be mailed or delivered to First United Methodist Church, 101 E. Jefferson Street Charlottesville, VA 22902 or faxed to (434) 963-7995. ServeSafe Essentials, fifth edition textbookServeSafe
An advanced class in food safety principles for food service managers and employees who want to be nationally certified in food safety by the National Restaurant Association Education Foundation. This class will prepare persons in charge of food establishments to demonstrate knowledge in risk factors and food safety principles as required by the Virginia Food Regulations. This class includes videos, games, quizzes, activities, review time and administration of the examination. ServeSafe Essentials Fifth Edition textbook is provided, along with all other materials. A nationally recognized certificate will be awarded upon passage of the course test. This certificate is valid for 5 years.

Prep CookPrep Cook
A basic cooking skills class that offers cooking techniques and terminology, knife skills, and equipment identifications that allows learners to excel in a cooking environment. Participants will learn how to read a recipe and prepare meals from recipes that they choose. A certificate from Charlottesville Albemarle Technical Education Center will be awarded upon passage of the course.

Both certificates are transferable to CATEC and PVCC as credit for one college course.
